Welding Metalworking Fabrication Workbench Video
This is a fabrication table I been putting together. I tried to add some features that'll make it easy to hold and position the work. I most always work alone and some of the things here around our place get pretty big and clumsy. Finally got tired of working on the ground and jury rigged arrangements.
The video was taken with a Canon digital camera. It was my first time taking a movie so it's not the best quality but I suppose you get the idea. I did the best I could with Windows Moviemaker to clean it up.

Love it and? stealing some ideas, thanks for posting and have a great holiday season!
@ht3oldnavy ...
@ht3oldnavy Probably would make a great woodshop table with a few modifications. Not sure would gain much going with 5" tubing unless it is something you have on hand. The 3 1/2" is just what was there so I went with it. 3" 3/16 wall would probably work as good as any if you're buying stock.
Definitely? get the heaviest plate you can for a fab table. The top I have on it now was what I had and more importantly free.Soon will have a 1" thick plate top.

@kingmanny57 Gorilla table...ugly but strong. It is a little prettier now that I got it? painted. Looks even better with a bunch of paying jobs on it. :)

@sweetlikeADAM I've got a big huink of 1" thick plate on the trailer? now.. Have to get it cut to size with the plasma cutter.

Finally someone built the basis of what I had in mind for a woodshop table. My? metal shop table would be alot different and not moveable. Out of five inch tube and a piece of plate

@1337cookie Table ...
@1337cookie Table works out? good. I built a similar one for working outdoors. My wife is a real good hand, better than a lot of guys I've worked with. Taught her some stick welding but she likes the tig better.
Thanks for the compliments and good luck.

I love the sound of your voice and the way? you speak of your wife. Very funny (excuse my reaction I'm from a small country).
Awesome video I'm definitely stealing some ideas from this.
@ron1martens ...
@ron1martens Thankyou for the quick reply. Well I made a mistake on my large work bench regarding the concrete. I compacted sand and poured on the ground. Then I cut the concrete to lift onto my workbench. The problem the underside was not flat. So next ? time. I will make a concrete binding floor level. Then pour concrete on that so the underside is flat. Unless you pour on the bench itself with enough support. Do you have compressed sheeting in U.S I dont know what you call it there.
@ron1martens There ...
@ron1martens There are no brakes on the casters but the table is so heavy it doesn't move at all. The end opposite the casters is solid legs...if there were casters might need the brakes. I bought a clamp on trailer jack for the solid end to move the table. Can be removed once table is in place.
The concrete idea is great! I? built a similar bench to the one here for using outside the shop where that might work great. Thanks for the tip!

Great design. One ...
Great design. One question. Your wheels are they clamp wheels or free rolling? A steel work bench is great I need to make a new work bench similar in size to the one you made. I have actually made my tops from concrete 30mm thick. It is outdoor and so not effected by rain like particle board or mdf. I used to convert from imperial to metric but now I work entirely in metric. Yes your castors(wheels) have no brakes. Is this going to be a problem??
Hi, im trying to ...
Hi, im trying to pop a little dome / ridge that is less then 1cm long into a piece of metal container so when i close it, the lid will stick on to? the little tiny dome so the lid will stay closed because currently nothing is holding it closed. If anyone knows what i am talking about can they please answer me or tell me what kind of tool can do this, im thinking some kind of handheld tool like a wrench that and press it and pop out the dome. Thanks.
Nice job,? man!

Thanks guys. I'm getting the shop set up a little better, putting up walls and electrical and all that so when spring comes I'll be ready. Once it gets reraanged I want to get a 1/2" plate for the table. In another video I show the top I got now which works ok. Just got a Hypertherm plasma so I gotta keep it busy.
This spring I am? opening a design and fabrication business out of the shop. Accurate Design will be the name.

Wow Dude, Those are ...
Wow Dude, Those are some great ideas. Your like a madd welder. I also like those wingnuts and that electric idea. I hope you dont mind, but i gotta add? some stuff like that to my plain a** table.lol
@averagemale2000 I ...
@averagemale2000 I never really considered selling it. But if I had to build one from scratch it would? likely be in the $1500 - $2000 range as a guess. The materials are all heavy structural steel and there is quite a little work in fabrication. A smaller table without come of the features ( such as the rail holes) would be less expensive. If anyone is really interested I could work up some real numbers. Thanks for asking. Al

how? much would you want to sell that workbench table?

Thanks.

Thanks.
Fire up the welder and build? you one. Except for borrowing the mag base drill from work for the 7/8" holes I built this with nothing fancy tools.
Well I did use the tractor to move the frame in the shop.

Using that for a ...
Using that for a torch set up would be a great? idea. Thing is around here I've gotta keep kinda mobile since we got 10 acres and sometimes have to get equipment out to the field.
Thank you. I'm ...
Thank you. I'm gonna put some updates on soon. There are a few details that might be better explained. I just recently added a row of 7/8" thru holes down the rails for clamping and such.
I'm wanting to get a nice heavy flat top for it. I know how handy it is to have a good surface to work from. So I'm holding off on it a bit until I can save? up the pennies to do it right.
It looks like you ...
It looks like you have? plenty of room for it also....Nice project, don't forget to post more as you progress....Also, you ever think that that end "cabinet" could be for your torch setup?..assuming you have one and want to use it.
VERY NICE ! I have ...
VERY NICE ! I have been wanting one of those for quite some time. I see others using tables like that for fabricating metal and you need something held down....poof, just tack it to the top and there you go. I like how you are incorporating the vice/clamps and that small table can hold a ton of different things.? make sure you get thick enough top for it...you don't want to put all this work into a project and not be happy with the top.
you could put? ...
you could put? grating on the other side fore use with a cuting torch i will post my project step by step once i have all the parts i want to use for it -Derek-
The small table has ...
The small table has the hole pattern to fit different tools....pipe vice, regular vice, bench grinder, drill press.
The main bench is an old warehouse rack. 3/16 or maybe even 1/8 wall would probably work fine.
I still have? to get some plate for the top...was thinking of 3/8 plate on one half and leaving the other half open.
Good luck with yours...post it up when you get going on it.
